“Hands down this is the best Shakespeare class I have ever taken! Ivy teaches you how to get your ‘self’ out and across to an audience right from your core. There are voice training exercises that are a part of the class that were such a surprise to me… and these are not only essential to Shakespeare, but to be a great actor in Theater or Film. It really helped me to open up my voice. I respect her as an actress and a teacher and am so grateful I got a chance to take her class.”
~ Sara Siddiqui – Student at Susan Batson Studio
“Ivy’s technique brought my entire being into the play on so many levels…I look forward to working with her again.”
~ Lloyd Price – Student at Susan Batson Studio
“Expecting to take a voice class I walked into a world of inspiration. I was invited to take on Shakespeare in a way that has left me with the skills to propel me further into his genius beyond the class setting. The vocal work was simple yet profound. I am still doing it daily and experiencing the rewards of discipline.”
~ Lisa Veshecco – Student at Susan Batson Studio
Voice Goals
Effective communication is grounded in truth and an open heart. It also comes from a place of relaxation and dynamic stillness, and is most effective where there is a generosity of spirit and a type of courage that embraces the willingness to be seen and to see, to connect with and engage the listener(s). It involves confidence and at the same time communicates respect for the listener. Grace and humility are at the center of effective communication. Conviction, passion and vulnerability, tethered with confidence and compassion are often notable characteristics of those who embrace this caliber of communication, raising its effectiveness most potently and transformatively. Clearly, content also plays a role here, but the one who makes him or herself available as an agent of what I perceive to be the highest, purest form of communication, often becomes a significant force for change in the listeners and in the world at large.
My goal is to come alongside each practitioner and support them in the achievement of their own particular goals by sharing creative ideas tailored to their own specific needs, along with physical exercises and techniques that will provide a solid craft by which to achieve them.
